Chapter 22

Truth

I’m sitting out on the veranda outside my room enjoying a drink when I see Dark Ink meandering up the trail. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them and I have wanted to talk to Dave about them. They are on their way to becoming superstars and they would make a great opening act for us when we go on tour. I know Kat hasn’t given her approval on anything yet but I like to plan ahead. The Grinders have been out of the public eye for a little while now, these guys have a whole new generation of fans that we can tap into and we’ll be good for them too.

I stand up and hang over the railing and yell, “Hola, Dark Ink! Welcome to Casa Reynolds!” They all look up and wave. “Come on in, the beers are cold and the food is hot!”

“Hey Truth!” Yells Amy and she grabs Dan’s hand and drags him toward the house. She looks good and I heard she and Dan are an item. Good for her, she deserves to be happy.

I can hear girly screams so I am assuming Kat and Amy are bonding on the front veranda. I throw back the rest of my drink and head downstairs. Kat is a homebody so I know everyone will be in the kitchen where she will be trying to ply them with food and drinks.

As I walk into the room, Dave comes toward me and whispers, “Keep away from Amy.” Then he turns around and says to the room, “Who wants a drink?”

I hold up my empty glass, “You can fill me up again if you’d like.”

He smiles at me, grabs my glass and heads for the fridge. I look around the room and everyone has eyes for me except for Amy who is staring at Kat so intently that it must hurt.

“Hey guys, how’s the album coming along?” I ask.

“Really good man, we’re nearly finished. Hey, if you could spare some time we would be grateful if you listened in as we put the final touches on it?” Says their lead guitarist, I think his name is Everett.

“I’m sure Truth has better things to do,” says Dan with a scowl on his face.

“Yes, I’m sure he does.” agrees Dave.

“Well, there’s not a lot to do here in terrific Tourmaline, so I’d be happy to help.” I reply.

“I’m sure Dark Ink can manage without you besides, I have something else I want you to do.” says Dave.

I’m confused, these guys haven’t hit it big yet and I’ve been in this industry for a little while now, surely I can offer them some assistance. Kat takes one look at my face and gives a slight shake of her head. She goes across the room to Dave, grabs my drink and walks it to me.

“Truth, honey, come out on the deck with me for a minute. I have wedding stuff I need to get your opinion on,” she turns and looks at the others, “We’ll only be a minute, feel free to raid the fridge and the liquor cabinet.
